"I was just working on a song, its far too noisy and distracting in the Common Room." Raven said, setting down her notebook. "The name's Raven Athlon, 5th year Slytherin." She said and introduced herself.

"A song? Wow." Nathalie was quite impressed. "I don't think I could ever write one. But I'm tone deaf - I can't carry a tune or anything. Are you writing the music too? Oh, I'm Nathalie Desjardins. Fifth year Ravenclaw."

"I write the lyrics, as well as the actual music. Here if you want to look at a few songs, just be careful with that notebook" She said, handing Natalie her notebook. "Nice to meet you Natalie, I haven't seen you around the school at all before, are you new?" She asked curiously, despite having just returned 2 weeks ago from being in Ireland, she noticed that there were many people that she hadn't met before.

Nathalie took the notebook and looked through it. "This is amazing," she said. "I wish I could do something creative - but I'm not artistic or musical or anything. I'm more comfortable with science and stuff." She gave the notebook back to Raven. "No, I'm not new - but I'm usually buried in the library or the Ravenclaw common room. I'm becoming a bit more sociable now, so we might be running across each other. You're going to the ball, aren't you?"

"Ah that would be why I haven't seen you before, I don't spend much time in the library, I'm usually out on the Quidditch Pitch or I'm wandering around the school." She said, putting her notebook back in her bag with her quill. "Of course I'm going to the ball, I've already got my dress and mask back hidden in the Slytherin Common Room."

Nathalie grinned. "I just bought mine on the weekend. I didn't know shopping could be fun - I always had my mother breathing down my neck before. So who are you going to the ball with?" she asked.

"I'm going with Chris Marquez, I actually asked him in the library" Raven said, with a smirk. "So I take it your parents are very controlling?" She asked curiously, her parents were never like that but now that she didn't have parents anymore, it didn't matter.

"Chris? He's nice, I bet he'll be fun to be with at the ball." She paused slightly, then said, "I just asked Caeleb Dracus to go with me - but he said he'll get back to me. I've got a feeling that translates as no." She shrugged. "Oh well, I'm going anyway." She grinned at Amanda's question. "That's putting it mildly. Father's not too bad, but Mother wants to control every second of our lives. She'd have a fit if she knew I'd just bought my own nightgowns and underwear."

"You asked Caeleb? Wow.. let me tell you something, you've definately got some guts to do that." She said with an eyebrow raised. "Lovely, well my parents were never like that, unfortunately they were killed not that long ago, I had to plan their funeral and deliver a eulogy which was absolutely the hardest thing I've ever done, now I've got a sister to take care of by myself" Raven said, fiddling with her bag.

"Oh - I'm sorry." Nathalie wondered how she'd feel if something happened to her own parents. She was much closer to her four sisters than to her parents. "How old is your sister? Is she at Hogwarts?"

"She's 10 years old, she's supposed to be coming to Hogwarts next year. Its not easy taking care of her, since I'm only 15." Raven said, looking down slightly. Taking care of Cassandra wasn't the hard part about this, the hard part was that she had to do it alone.

Nathalie nodded. "I guess not." She'd never really had to look after her sisters beyond keeping them in order in the large bedroom the five of them shared at home. Even as the eldest Nathalie never had much responsibility at home. "So what happens to her while you're at school?"

"Well, right now, she's just staying at headquarters. I spoke to Kildara earlier in the year, and she's allowed to come here early just to hang around" Raven said, rubbing her left arm slightly.

Nathalie frowned. "Headquarters of what?" She noticed Raven rubbing her arm. "Oh - did I hurt you when I tripped over you? Let me see, if it's really bad you should go to the nurse," she said, reaching out towards Raven's arm.

"Promise you won't say a word if I tell you what I am?" She said in a very serious and low tone. She moved her arm back. "No my left arm's fine.. it just burns every now and then but its normal" Raven said, biting her lip.
