Arithmancy Lesson One

[JadieLou]

Kildara walked slowly into her classroom, clutching her stomach slightly. She didn't feel well but she still had to teach. She waved her hand across the room and the dusty tables righted tehmselves and the dust evaporated. She smiled at the cleanliness of her classroom and she walked up to the front.

She walked up to the chalkboard and the chalk lifted itself from it's bracket and started writing on the board.

Professor Kildara Snape

appeared in one corner. The words,

Welcome to Arithmancy

scrawled themselves across the middle of the board.
She looked at her handiwork and smiled.

She turned to her desk and opened her textbook to Chapter One and sat crosslegged upon her desk, waiting for her students to arrive.

Caitlin strolled in with a nod to Kildara. She knew it would be unwise not to pretend it was just a student teacher relationship. "Hello proffesor"She said sittin up front in the center takeing out her book.

Danika strolled casually into the classroom and took her seat next to Caitlin. "Hi Professor," she said, a tone bordering on indifference in her voice. She knew everyone knew she and Kildara knew each other, but decided to treat her like she treated every other teacher.

Kildara smiled at Caitlin and Danika as they entered the classroom. "Good day to you girls" she said happily. "We'll just wait for a few others to arrive before we start." she said, a smile on her happy face.

Caitlin nodded. at Danika.She wasn't surprised at Danikas tone

Kelly slowly walked into the classroom. She was not least surprised seeing Danika and Caitlin sitting next to each other. "it's going to be a long year" she thought while taking a seat behind Danika.

Kildara smiled happily as Kelly entered the room. She was surprised when she sat next to Danika. A Slytherin and a Gryffindor, sitting next to each other. Interesting.
"Hello Miss Black. How are you today?" she asked happliy. She was so excited about her first lesson. It was basic and boring but still, it needed to be taught.

"I'm quite fine, Professor. Had some trouble sleeping, but it's a no big deal. How about yourself?" Kelly answered with a smile. "and when can we start with the lesson?" she was eager to learn and be taught.

Kildara smiled. "That's good. I'm quite good. Well, I could be better, but I'm well." she said, patting her stomach unconsciously. Now she had told James, she felt better about it. "And we will start now." she smiled, getting up off her desk and standing in front of the class. She smiled at them then started her first class.
"Arithmancy is the subtle science of divining your future by the use of numbers. Each number has a magical property and a definition, those of which we will be studying in this class. The word Arithmancy comes from two Greek words. Arithmos, meaning numbers, and manteia, meaning divination, hence why Arithmancy is considered divination by numbers. Studying what the numbers mean in relation to your birth name and birth date gives a detailed portrait of who you are and what your potentials and challenges are. Think of it as a convenient map for your life!" she said, sighing slightly, taking in a deep breath. "Everyone following?" she asked.

Danika smiled up at Kildara. She had just told her that she was pregnant. She was so happy. She looked up at her intently. Arithmancy was her favourite subject. She nodded. Yes she was following. And this was basic anyway.

"Excuse me, what did you say?" Kelly hadn't paid any attention. "I saw wrong, ofcourse. Definetely!" she thought, but could it be. "No way. Silly thoughts.." she even felt silly, siting there and talking to herself. "I mean, yes, I'm following. Numbers and life. Got it." she sounded rediculous, she knew it, but couldn't help it.

Kildara smiled at Kelly. "I'm sorry dear? What don't you understand?" she asked. The girl was acting sort of strange.

"Oh nothing. I'm really sorry, I just got a little carried away with my own thoughts. I understand everything quite clearly, you can carry on." she answered a bit nervously.

Caitlin sent a look back at Kelly how stupid babbleing like crazy. She turned back to Dani with a look saying how annoyed she was before nodding at Kildara

Danika sighed and looked at Caitlin, an annoyed look on her face. She had to hold back a laugh when Caitlin looked at her the same way. She turned back to the front to listen to what Kildara had to say next.

Kildara smiled at the girls and held back a laugh when Caitlin and Danika gave each other identical looks of annoyance. She took a deep breasth and continued.
"Can you all open your books to Chapter One? I'm going ask you a few questions to see how much you've read." she said happily, guessing they might have read at least something.

Nathan nodded, "Yep, following" he said, he always enjoyed arithmancy, it was so much better than divination to him, except when he finds things he doesn't exactly like about himself.

He, then, proceeded to open the book just as Professor Snape said.

Kildara smiled at the youngest member of her class. Then she looked at the class at large.
"Okay then. An easy one to begin with. Who is known as the father of number?" she said.
She knew it was really easy, but it would show if they'd read anything at all.
