Aidan walked into Ollivanders, hoping that the damage to his wand could be repaired. It still worked most of the time, but ever since a classmate at Durmstrang had tried to hex him, it had occasionally behaved in strange ways. He'd heard that Ollivanders was the best place to buy wands; maybe they could also fix them.
He glanced around the shop, and smiled as he saw Angel, the girl he'd spoken to recently at the party. "Hi there," he said, turning on the charm. "Wand trouble?" Sinead saw another kid come in. What were all these people doing to their wands! She turned to him and smiled. "How can I help you?" she asked. "New wand?"

Sinead saw another kid come in. What were all these people doing to their wands! She turned to him and smiled. "How can I help you?" she asked. "New wand?" "I hope not," Aidan replied. "A kid at my last school tried to hex me, and it hit my wand hand. Since then, the wand occasionally does strange things - like sometimes, it gets hot in my hand for a moment. Or a spell will be much stronger, or much weaker than I meant it. Can that be fixed?" he asked a little anxiously.

Angel turned and saw one of the twins from the party. Drats which one is he? "Hey," she smiled. "Um well my wand had broken, but thankfully I've just found one perfect for me." The wand that she'd been given seemed to be the best one even better than her old one. "How are you doing?" she asked.

I got hexed last term and I think it damaged the wand." How was he doing? He grinned to himself, remembering what had happened recently with Ceallach... "Not bad. Getting to know a few people. When Zach and I start at Hogwarts in a few days, at least we won't be complete strangers to everyone."
Aidan was glad he'd had this chance meeting with Angel. She certainly interested him, and if it hadn't been for the intriguing possibilities that Ceallach had offered at the party, he would have spent more time talking to her. "Hey, if you're not in a rush, would you like to go for an icecream?"

She hadn't been told a wand could be fixed, and she didn't particularly want to experiment on some else's wand. "Can I look at the wand?" she asked, holding her hand out.

"That's not good," Angel said sympathetically with a small smile. "Of course you'll know a few people, you met most of them at the party the other day." Hearing him mention Zach, meant that he was Aiden, and that was even better because in her opinion he was the better looking one.
"No I'm not in a rush, right now I'd prefer not to be at my aunt's house because it would mean a lot of arguing and shouting," Angel said. Shouting wasn't really her thing and being in a house full of shouting people gave her a headache. "Ice cream sounds like a perfect idea though!"

"Of course." Aidan handed over the wand, not very encouraged by the shop assistant's sigh, or her words. "It was a confringo curse, if that helps. It made my hand go numb for three days." He had a feeling things weren't looking good for his wand.
He looked back at Angel as she spoke. "Cool. As soon as I've finished here, we can go." Well, if he had to get a new wand, at least he'd have a couple of days to practice with it before school started. Being of-age, he didn't have the Trace on him any more.

He was right, it did warm up, almost unbearably. She sighed, feeling the wand. Wands were like people, they felt. This one, was beyond repair. If he tried anything too much with it, it would suffer the same fate as the younger boy in the shop. She looked at him and shook her head. "I'm sorry. I can't fix it," she said softly, apologetically.

"Okay I don't mind waiting," Angel said happily. Hearing that his wand couldn't be fixed she felt bad. It wasn't fun having your wand damaged, although if he got a wand like her new one, he'd love it. "Um Miss, how much is this wand?" she asked, realising she hadn't paid for it yet.

Sinead listened, then sighed softly. "Well, yes, that is what you say to a five-year-old that wants your wand," she laughed. "It's rather odd that it exploded, though. But, I'll leave it lie. Just be careful with this one, okay. Make sure your little brother goes no where near it. Because, the wand choses the wizard, and there are only so many wands that are suited to a person." she gave him a small smile, then nodded as he held out his hand to show her. "Yes. You are very lucky actually. An exploding wand can cause a lot of damage. Could have blown your arm off," she said, smiling softly. "Okay, young sir, umm ... that wand there is 12 sickles," she said, still smiling softly. "I know it's odd" he said, he'd never heard of something like that before, "Yeah, I'll keep this one even safer" he smiled, there was no way that Nathan would let Bastien or even Aaron near any of his stuff anymore. "Here you go, Miss" he said, giving the 12 sickles to the shopkeeper. "And, thank you" he added, nodding. "Yeah well there have been some cases of people with a lot of power in them," Angel said thinking of a few of her friends with a lot of power. "At least it wasn't you that exploded though. That has to be a good point." She couldn't imagine someone exploding it would be way too gross and scary actually. "Yeah neither of us know what's happened, but like you said, what's done is done and hopefully our new wands will be good."
"No you can call me Angelina, I really don't mind," Angel said. She liked all of them, though if anyone called her Angie she wouldn't allow it. No one called her Angie. Nathan laughed, "Right, it was good I didn't explode" he said, shaking his head.
"Well, it was nice meeting, I'll see you around" he said, looking at Angelina. With his new wand already paid for, Nathan exited the shop.

But maybe that meant it was the core that was damaged. He sighed. He and Zach had bought their wands at the same time, they'd been the same wood - they'd been told that they'd even been made from the same tree - but with different cores. He'd felt their wands had the same sort of connection that he and Zach had as twins. He took the wand from the assistant, and ran his hand over it sadly. It felt almost like losing a friend...
He looked up at the assistant. "Ok. I guess I'll need a new one, then." He couldn't imagine that any wand would suit him as well as this first one had. He glanced at Angel, and managed a smile. She'd understand how he felt, having just had to replace her own wand.

She smiled softly. He was a cutey.

She turned and reached for a box on the counter. "Try this one. Elm, Veela Hair, 10 inches," she said softly, holding the wand out to him, the apologetic look still on her face.

Angel laughed, her eyes twinkling. "Okay I'll see you around Hogwarts Nathan. It was nice meeting you too." She couldn't believe she hadn't met Nathan before he was really nice.

Seeing the dispair in Aiden's eyes, Angel went up to him and put an arm on his arm. "At least you can still get another wand," she said softly. She knew it wasn't going to be the same, but it was what most wizards needed, unless they could do wandless magic like Ceallach.
She heard how much her wand cost and took the money out of her purse handing it over with a smile. "There you go, fourteen sickles. Thank you for helping me."

Aidan smiled at Angel, and nodded. "Yeah. It's just going to feel strange at first. But you know what they say, the wand chooses the wizard - so maybe I'm just destined to be getting a new one right now." Sinead sighed. "I'm really very sorry I can't fix it. The core is damaged. There is nothing I can do." She turned and reached for a box on the counter. "Try this one. Elm, Veela Hair, 10 inches," she said softly, holding the wand out to him, the apologetic look still on her face. Aidan took the wand, feeling a bit dubious. Elm was okay, but Veela hair? He'd always thought only girls had that for a core. Still, if the wand was choosing him... he pointed the wand at a lamp standing on the counter and spoke the spell to light the lamp. It lit up, almost before he'd finished speaking. "It's responsive," he commented. He looked at it, liking the carving, a spiral handle, with a finely tapering body. He pointed the wand again, and this time just thought the spell, without speaking. The lamp went out obediently, and Aidan grinned. "That's the first time I've done a non-verbal spell. It looks like this is the right wand!" He smiled at the assistant (too bad he didn't know her name, he thought), and said, "I think this will suit me. How much?"
