Frankie left the staircase and turned into the Corridor towards the Library. Although she had no work to do right now, the Library was her favourite place to be these days. She had been spending a lot of time by herself recently, especially as Justin was never around anymore. He'd been spending more and more time with his little Spanish friend, and although there was nothing inherently wrong with the girl, Frankie just couldn't stomach her "Isn't the world beautiful...and so am I" character. Deep down she knew it was just that her former best friend seemed to prefer her company to Frankie's, but it was easier to pretend she hated her.
As she walked her fingers closed around the stone in her pocket, turning it over and over slowly in her palm. The stone, she realised, hadn't left her pocket since the day she'd found it. It was an odd sort of thing for Frankie to do, she realised, but for some reason she just liked having it there. It didn't really have any practical use besides acting as a sort of "worry stone", but somehow the idea of it not being there was equivalent to forgetting her keys or her wand. It had just become part of her.
She released a deep sigh and trudged on towards the solitude of the Library.

Janie wandered down the fourth floor corridor, lost in her own thoughts. She seemed to have regained an old friend, Alex, but she wasn't entirely sure. The girl had problems. Like serious ones she needed to work out... and Janie's nose still hurt! Hard to be real friends with someone that broke your nose.
Looking up as she heard more footsteps, she saw a girl that looked vaguely familiar. Obviously older than she remembered her, but yeah. Couldn't remember her name though. She sighed. Where was her memory lately! Since she'd got back here it had gone completely kaput. She smiled at the girl as they nearred each other.
"Hey," she said casually.

It took a moment to realise that the girl was talking to her ad even then Frankie wasn't prepared to give a decent reply. "What?" she asked, rather abruptly before realising that she sounded incredibly rude. The girl who spoke was a Slytherin, which surprised her even more. "Erm, I mean, sorry. Hi." She stopped again. She still didn't know what to say. It was at this point she realised just how unsociable she had become. It bothered her slightly. Part of her wanted to just nod politely and keep walking. But a part of her also missed being around people and it was this part that won. "H-how are you? she asked uncertainly. Did people still ask that? Of course they did. Idiot.

Janie's right eyebrow raised slightly at the other girl's abruptness. But then she seemed to realise what she sounded like. Janie put on a small smile. "Uhhh... I'm okay. How're you?" she asked, a little confused, and hoping it didn't show. 'How are you? That wsa an odd question.

Frankie smiled uncertainly, glad the girl hadn't taken offence. "Oh...I'm ok. Sorry I was just a bit distracted." she explained, taking her hand out of her pocket, leaving the stone where it was. "Are you going to the library?" she asked, for want of a better question. "That's where I was headed." she added.

She DID have to do some research for her Arithmancy catch up stuff. Professor Templeton had agreed to take her into the NEWT class so long as she promised to do the extra work to catch up... so far... the Slytherin prefect had done NOTHING towards it...

"Cool." She said and turned to walk with Janie towards the library. She suddenly noticed Janie's Prefect badge and inwardly grimaced. She hadn't even recognised a fellow Prefect! What kind of person had she turned into recently? "How long have you been a Prefect?" she asked. "I just got my badge this year. Don't know why they gave it to me though." she added with a shrug. "I guess choices were thin on the ground what with...everything." she continued, lowering her voice towards the end.

"Uhm, only since this year. I was away for a few years... but as there was a shortage of Slytherins, they gave me a badge." Janie shrugged, suddenly feeling that relief she hadn't been here for the battle and all that. "Did you lose anyone?"

Frankie looked sideways at Janie and nodded. At least she wasn't the only one new to this Prefect lark. She shook her head when Janie asked if she'd lost anyone. "No one close." she replied. "People I knew to say "hi" to I guess, but no real friends." she explained. "I don't have many to be honest." she added with a wistful smile. "And certainly none from that crowd if you know what I mean. I tend to keep my head down." she added then realised she was rambling a bit. "You said you've been away?" she prompted, trying to change the subjecro

Janie listened as Frankie spoke about people that had been lost in the battle. "Fair enough," she wasn't entirely sure what that crowd was, though. Down falls of being away.
At Frankie's question, she shrugged. "My mum pulled me and my sisters out after my third year. My older sister was in 6th, and Clare, my younger sister was in 2nd. Uhh, we still haven't worked out why she did it, but she home-schooled us. Mikaela's graduated and married... and me and Clare are back here, because we begged for it."

Frankie listened in surprise. "Oh my god, that sounds horrid. I'd go insane without Hogwarts. I'm sure your Mum had a good reason and everything but..." she trailed off, shaking her head. She couldn't imagine what her life would like without this place. Stuck at home with her Father. No thank you! "It must be so weird for you being back!" she exclaimed. "I mean, you missed so much. And all your friends...they must have changed a lot since you last saw them." she carried on shaking her head in disbelief. She suddenly felt incredibly sorry for Janie.

I think it was just her being a control freak, to be honest. Miki and Clare think so too. Mother likes to control everything, and she couldn't while we were here," Janie replied, with a shrug of her shoulders. The subject of her friends, made a sigh leave her lips. "Yeah, all my friends aren't here. I don't know where they all are, but they're not here. I have to start again."

Frankie grunted when Janie talked about her Mother. "My Dad's the complete opposite. He can't wait for me to come back here each term. And when I am home he never seems to be there. He miraculously become extremely busy with work. I hardly ever see him to be honest." she said in a slightly bitter tone. "Suits me just fine." she added in a lower voice. "Sucks about your friends, though. I think a lot of people have left to be honest. A lot of parents pulled their kids out of Hogwarts." she said, sincerely feeling for Janie. She must be very lonely.

Janie shrugged. "Yeah, my dad's like that too. Well, really he's just ... well he just acts like we're not there. Mikaela was his favourite, now she's gone ad married, well he has no one to dote on in his opinon..." Another shrug. "Yeah, I noticed that when I got here... there's not a lot of people left. Class sizes are smaller at least..."
