"Yeah, but that's just how it's always been done. They haven't told me any of them yet. I'm sure they'll be rich and come from a powerful family. Especially as I'm the Desjardins heir - though as soon as I produce a son, he'll become the real heir." She laughed, a touch of bitterness in the sound. "I'll just be the container. Anyway, I've got a few years left, I'm going to enjoy school while I can." She leaned over to take a closer look at what Luke had written. "Maybe I can help a bit? What's the essay about?"

Luke groaned, "It's about the properties of lace wing flies in Polyjucie, like, what it adds to it and that type of thing..." he rested his head on one hand, holding the quill in the other. "I just don't get it. Or care really."

"Oh - well the lacewing flies are the most important part, really, because that's the ingredient that absorbs the information about the person you want to change into - so if you left them out, you wouldn't see any change after you take it. And it's also what keeps you looking like them - stops you changing back. The problem is, once you've swallowed the potion, the lacewing part breaks down very quickly, which is why the change only lasts for an hour. Even if you double the amount you put in, it won't last any longer." Nathalie looked thoughtful for a moment, then added, "Make sure you mention how important it is to stew them for a month... if you don't do that, then the potion is useless because it takes that long to extract the part that actually works." She smiled at Luke. "Does that help?"

"Yeah, thanks." he smiled, "But I still don't get why, if the flies do all that, that you need all the other stuff? Seems like a waste of time." But he scribbled down the information, remembering to mention why you have to stew it for so long.
OOC// Nice Tamzin! Sorry if I pout you on the spot there!

"Oh, well the flies absorb what the person looks like, but you need some of the other ingredients as a catalyst - the thing that starts the reaction. And you need the boomslang skin to record what you look like before you change - otherwise you never know what you'll look like after the potion wears off." Nathalie shrugged. "I just have always been interested in how potions work, not just how to make them. I mean, that's how people invent potions - by figuring out what different ingredients do, and then combining them in new ways."
ooc: no problem - I love making up stuff like that.

"That's actually quite interesting." he said, looking at her. "Unfortunately I have no talent in that range of expertise."

"Well, I'm not sure I could invent new potions. But it's interesting to see the connections." She grinned, and admitted, "Sometimes I look at a recipe for a potion, and try to figure out what it does just from the ingredients." No wonder her sisters teased her sometimes, and said she should be a professor one day. "I suppose that seems a bit odd. I just like studying."

"I like to study too, on my own time, I hate homework. The only things I remember clearly are random facts I've read before." Luke smiled and shook his head. "You'd be a great potions master. Professor Pettigrew has to retire sometime."

"Yes, that might be fun. Teaching History of Magic would be cool too. No chance, of doing either, though," she said matter-of-factly. No point torturing herself with impossible dreams. She grinned. "I suppose I'll be able to tutor my own kids eventually. You know, give them a good head start before they actually come to Hogwarts, and help them with their holiday homework." She grinned. "I should let you get on with that essay before you forget all the stuff about lacewing flies. And I want to make these notes before my next class." She smiled at Luke, and began to write down the information she was looking up.

Andrew walked into the library avoiding Mr. Krukov, the guy really freaked him out sometimes. Heading straight for the study tables he sat down with a sigh and pulled out his books to do some homework. Ever since the situation with Bella he hadn't taken to drawing anymore, his sketch book thrown forgotten into his trunk by his bed. He opened his book and began rereading the chapter after not having paid much attention in class. Everyone seemed all excited around him because of the upcoming ball, if it wasn't for Ellie he wouldn't have been going at all. He really didn't want to see Bella in whatever dress she chose to wear, accenting whatever features he loved about her.... He gritted his teeth and forced his thoughts back to the homework. That was his problem now, every time he tried to not think of her he would so instead he drowned himself in his school work causing his grades to shoot up and his jokes to drop off dramatically.

Astrid walked into the library with her bag hanging off her left shoulder, she could feel the bag breaking away from her shoulder and she heard it drop, silently cursing and she bit her lip gently. She kneeled down and collected all her textbooks, quills and bottles of ink. She carried her stuff over to a table, noticing that someone was already there. "Excuse me. Do you mind if I sit here?" She asked curiously.

She asked curiously. Andrew looked up from his textbook as he heard someone drop something. He saw an older Ravenclaw girl picking up stuff and bring it over to his table, pushing some of his stuff out of the way he shrugged, "Sure, I guess." He turned his attention back to his textbook and his brooding thoughts.

Astrid pulled out a chair and sat down in it, taking out her wand and casting a non-verbal Reparo, fixing her bag easily. She took out her notebook and picked up her black feather quill, unscrewing the top off of a bottle of ink, dipping her quill into it. She set aside her quill for the moment and put away her other books and bottles of ink back in her back. "I don't believe we've met, Astrid Smith, 7th year Ravenclaw" She said quite formally.

Andrew looked up at the girl as she spoke to him again. Where are all these bloody Ravenclaws coming from? He stopped himself from thinking about Bella yet again and instead cleared his throat. "Umm...no I don't think we have. I'm Andrew McDougall, 6th year Gryffindor and Gryffindor Captain." Why not flaunt the title since he had to practically beg to be removed as a Prefect.

"Pleasure to meet you Andrew, Quidditch Captain huh? Hmm..interesting." Astrid said with a smile. Picking up her quill, she began to work on another one of her poems, occasionally editing as she went along.
