Max walked outside into the courtyard and fresh air. He needed some place to think. He'd practically shattered any chance he'd had with Annie. Surely. Stupid! He sighed, and looked around, his breath catching in his throat. There she was. Great. Okay. You need to do this. he sighed again and walked over to her.
"Annie?" he said tentitavely.

Annie sighed and opened her eyes slowly when she heard her name. She bit her bottom lip when she saw Max standing in front of her, "hey Max" she answered him softly, sitting up to look at him.

Max sighed, fiddling with his hands in front of him. "Umm. Can I sit?" he asked. When he'd sat down, he sighed again, looking up at Annie. "Umm. Annie. I wanted to apologise for kissing you yesterday. I shouldn't have. But. umm." Wow! You're going so well! He sighed again, and twisted on the bench so he was facing her. "Annie, willyougototheballwithme?" he said really fast, almost incomprehensibly.

Annie nodded and moved a little for him to sit down with her. "It's ok Max" she answered, smiling at him softly. She wanted to tell him what she thought about him but she couldn't. She furrowed her eyebrows when he asked her something, she couldn't understand a word of it, "sorry, what was that?" she asked him.

Max took a few deep breaths as she clearly didn't understand him. "Annie. Will you go to the ball with me?" he asked, slower, hoping he didn't have to repeat it again.

Annie sat there in shock when she repeated himself. She opened her mouth to answer but nothing came out. She smiled at him and nodded, "of course I will" she answered, unsure about what to do.

Max watched Annie as she sat there, seemingly in shock. He started fiddling with his hands again. When she nodded her head and spoke, he felt elated, his insides leapt with joy, and he wanted to kiss her again. But, he wouldn't. She's probably take back her acceptance. "That - that's great," he stammered, quite at a loss of what to do now.

Annie smiled and leant forward to give him a hug. "So where does this leave us now?" she asked. She had no idea what to say or do. Once again it was awkward with him.

Max smiled and returned Annie's hug. When she spoke, he shrugged. "Where do you want this to leave us?" he asked. He really wasn't good at this. He sighed, taking a few more deep breaths. "Scratch that question. I have another one." He took a few more deep breaths. "Will you go out with me?" he said, a little calmer than he was when he'd asked her to the ball. Funny that!

Annie smiled and waited for him to ask his question. She nodded again, "yeah, sure" she answered. All her worries about Max not changing disappeared. "Jeez Bella was right again" she muttered mostly to herself.

Max was even happier when she said yes. "I'm so happy," he muttered quietly, pullin gher into another hug. He hadn't been this happy in a long time. When she spoke quietly to herself, he raised an eyebrow. "Bella?" he asked.

Annie smiled softly, "so am I" she replied hugging him back. She chucled softly when he asked about Bella, "yeah, she was giving me advice about my 'relationship' with you" she answered using air quotes around the word relationship.

Max laughed when she told him about Bella. "Ah. Ok," he said. Then he took her hands out of the air, and held them in his. "You can lose the quotemarks, babe," he chuckled. "It's a relationship now." Relationship?! (gulp)

Annie smiled softly and laughed herself. She felt him take her hands and bit her bottom lip. "Your hands are soft" she commented before blushing a little. "Ok, I'll loss them if that's really what you want" she replied giving him a small smile. He really wants a relationship? maybe he was changing.

Max laughed when Annie said he had soft hands. "Thanks," he said. That's two people now! Jeez! "Yeah, that's what I want. Is that what you want?" he asked curiously.
