I, Sabrina Bellatrix Dumbledore have never been afraid. Never in my sixteen years of life. Not even when my mother and my stepfather were taken away. So why am I scared of boarding a train to go to Hogwarts, after hating Beauxbatons so much, I asked my uncle to allow me to switch schools and come back to England?
It has taken the past three years to make my uncle see why I should come back, but he is now letting me return, on one condition: that I don't go anywhere near the Slytherins (like I would ever go near them) and become friends with the Golden Trio of Hogwarts: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermoine Granger!!
This should be easy; I mean I shouldn't be afraid of who I am, or who my parents are. No wait. Scratch that, I should be ashamed of who my parents are; well one of them anyways.
................................................................................................................................................................................................................
I got onto the train and made my way down, searching for a compartment. After walking up and down the train twice, a black messy haired boy with green emerald eyes stuck his head out of a compartment. "You can come and sit in here if no where else is free," he said to me. I looked at him closely. Was that a scar I saw on his head? It must have been because he grinned at me and said, "Yeah, I'm Harry Potter."
I grinned back, "Thanks. For letting me come and join you. I'm Sabrina. Sorry I stared." It was only polite that I apologized especially since he was being kind enough to let me sit with him. And of course he probably had lots of people staring so it probably got annoying.
He shook his head as if not to worry and grabbed my trunk and helped me get it up overhead. I looked around. There were quite a few other people in there as well: a red headed boy and a red headed girl (I was guessing they were related), a curly brown haired girl with a book, a blonde haired girl with radish earrings, and a brown haired boy with a frog. Harry spoke again, "Guys this is Sabrina... What is your last name Sabrina?"
I looked at the six faces staring at me for an answer. Do I tell them who I really am? I didn't know how they would react and I didn't want a big comotion just after having found people who could possibly be my friends for the next two years.
Thankfully I was saved from answering that question when the door was flung open. Looking up I saw five boys in Slytherin-coloured robes standing in the doorway."What do you want Malfoy?" asked the red headed girl.
Uh oh, not a Malfoy. Of all the people I had to meet on the train. It had to be him. I hadn't seen him before, but I knew about him and his family, much to my disgust. And I knew that they wouldn't like me hanging around Harry and his friends. Let's just hope he doesn't recognise me!
He may not have recognised me, but he certainly noticed me sitting there. Malfoy looked me up and down before saying, "If you're new you better come and join us, you don't want to get mixed up in the wrong sort of people before term even starts. I'm Draco Malfoy (this earned a few sniggers from the girls sitting down) and these are Crabbe, Goyle, Nott and Zabini. Who are you?"
I knew my hair had changed colour before I heard the shocked gasps of everyone around me. "I'm Sabrina and yes I'm new, but unfortunatly I think I'm speaking to the wrong sort already. So, I'll take your advice and stop talking to you now. Bye." With that, I shut the door in their faces before they had a chance to say anything else.
"Wow! Although that was really brave, I think you've just made him really angry," said the blonde haired girl.
I sat down next to Harry with a slight inclined smile at the girl, who Harry then introduced as a Luna Lovegood, who was fifth year in Ravenclaw. The brown haired girl was Hermoine Granger, who I knew was in the same year that I was going in, and was in Gryffindor. The other girl was Ginny Weasley, who although was in Gryffindor, was in fifth year with Luna. The boy, who I had thought was Ginny's brother, was in fact her brother Ron Weasley, Gryffindor's Keeper last year. The boy with the toad, was Neville Longbottom.
Longbottom? Great...he's going to hate me. Stupid bloody parentage.
"Where have you transferred from Sabrina?" Hermoine asked me, putting her book back into her trunk.
"From Beauxbatons. I live with my uncle normally over here, but I have been going to Beauxbatons because he didn't think it was safe for me to go to Hogwarts-"
"-that's silly, there's no safer place than Hogwarts," interrupted Ron. It wasn't as if I didn't know that, I knew how safe those walls were. I'd stayed there every summer.
"I know." I continued, "But my uncle just didn't think it was right for me, and my dad agreed, so every year I would go to Beauxbatons; and every year I would come back to England. I literally went on my hands and knees at the beginning of summer and begged to be allowed to go to Hogwarts. My uncle was more adament about me attending because of the breakouts from Azkaban, but I made him see that I was safer where he could keep an eye on me, then where I would have been. He says I'm going to be in the same year as Ron, Hermoine, Harry and Neville, but I will have to be sorted with the first years unfortunatly."
"Who is your uncle, Sabrina, because although he may seem to be protective, he seems kind of mean." Ginny said, whilst we started to get out our school robes. She was right that one of my uncles was mean, but not the one that I was describing.
"Umm... I'll tell you guys more. Once we arrive and I have been sorted, I promise." I replied, praying that my answer would be accepted for the moment. I would tell them, just when I was fully sure on how they'd take it.
It must have been, because Ginny laughed saying, "Fine, I'll let it go for the moment, just make sure you're in Gryffindor."
"Oh I will be," I laughed. Though I crossed my fingers as I said it, praying that it would be true. I couldn't follow my mother and be in Syltherin, I just couldn't, cause although it would make her oh so proud, it would put me into even more danger. Then again, being in Gryffindor, would be a one way ticket to hell in her eyes.
The joys of my parentage.
Eventually after playing Exploding Snap and winning against everyone except Harry and Ginny; eating lots of food from the trolley (Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans are really horrible, I had a bogey flavored one!!!); and learning about classes, we arrived at the station in Hogsmede. The bloody nerves were back as well which didn't make me feel any better about what was going to happen very shortly. Everyone had been really nice to me though, so I was really hoping for Gryffindor now; screw what my mother thought.
"Firs' Years over 'ere please!" I heard someone shout. I looked up to see Hagrid, who had seemed to have grown over since I'd seen him last summer. Honestly he always seemed to keep growing! "Sabrina! Haven' seen ya in ages. Professor Dumbl'dor says your ta come with me an' be sorted with the firs' years."
"Okay," I yelled back to him. "Well, sorry guys," I apologized, turning back to face the others. I didn't want to leave my new friends, but I knew that the Headmaster was a person that had to be listened to; everyone knew it.
"Don't worry about it, we'll save you a seat at the table." Harry replied, before getting on a Thestral drawn carriage. Everyone followed his example and I watched the carriage go off towards the castle while I waited for the rest of the first years to arrive.
I sat down in a boat with Hagrid and looked up, as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry loomed over me as we crossed the lake. My hair had changed color to red, when Malfoy came in, so I changed it back to blonde. It was quite nice being a metamorphagous, although my feelings do change what color it is, so I have to keep them under control. I can also change my eye color, but I rarely do that, it's nicer having bluish-green eyes all the time.
The first years and I were greeted by Professor McGonagall at the entrance and she led us into the Great Hall. It definitely looked different being packed full of students, then it did during the summer holidays. I could feel myself getting nervous again, which was stupid, I knew that I was going to be in Gryffindor; I had to be, it would be the icing on the cake to a perfect first day. "I'm going to call you out in order of your last names. However, we have a transferred student who will be going first. Sabrina Dumbledore." McGonagall yelled out. I honestly swear she used Sonorous just to make sure everyone heard her. And heard her they had; everyone starting whispering to their neighbours. The Hufflepuffs, the Ravenclaws, the Gryffindors, the Slytherins, the ghosts, the teachers. In fact the only two sets of people that weren't whispering were Harry and his friends, and my uncle the famous Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts. Although he may not have been whispering, he did sit up straighter and lean forward ever so slightly, as if waiting to see what would become of me.
Legs shaking, breathing way too fast, trying to make sure my hair stayed blonde, I walked up to the three-legged stool, and put the sorting hat on my head. "Ahh, Dumbledore said I was going to be sorting you this year. Though why I couldn't do six years ago is beyond me-"
Hurry up already please!
"Well, lets see then. You definitely have your uncle's and father's bravery and courage in you, and you would make a good team with the young Potter, Weasleys and Granger-"
Yes! Put me in Gryffindor, then I can get some food! I was hungry and I just wanted to crawl into a hole so people would stop staring at me.
"However, you do have some of your mother in you. Deep down inside of you, whether you like it or not, you have powers from your mother which you may have to use one day. So which will it be: Slytherin like your mother or Gryffindor like your father and uncle? I know better be GRYFFINDOR!!!!"
PHEW! That was all I could think as I got of the stool and walked to the Gryffindor table, sitting in between Ginny and Hermoine. I looked up to my uncle who was clapping and smiling at me. Good he should be happy It had taken every ounce of pleading and thoughts I had to make sure I was put in Gryffindor. I glanced at the Slytherin table just by chance and sure enough, there was a look of shocked recognition on Malfoy's face as we made eye contact, followed by a smirked triumphant look. It was that look which made me feel like I had swallowed polyjuice potion. Something was going go wrong tomorrow, I just knew it.
