Olivia walked briskly into the room, smiling at the students as she walked to the board. "Hello everyone," she said, waving her wand at a piece of chalk. "I am Professor Tudor, your new charms professor. As she said her name, the chalk rose and spelled her name on the old dusty board. Olivia made a mental note to dust the classroom when she had a spare moment.
"Some of the most useful magic you will ever use will be in the form of charms. It is essential to becoming a well trained witch or wizard, and I have complete faith that all of you are capable of achieving that title." Olivia took a moment to smile encouragingly at the students.
"I am very sure that this is the beginning of a fantastic year, and I think the best way to start it off would be with a few simple spells, some of which you may already know. It will help me figure out how experienced you are in this subject, and will give you a chance to warm up a bit. After an entire summer without using magic, even the most talented witches or wizards might feel a bit, 'rusty.'
"So let's begin. On each of your desks, I have placed a single button. I would like you to mimic these movements," she said, giving her wand a swish and flick, "-and repeat these words, 'Wingardium Leviosa,' while focusing on the button."
As Oliva said the incantation, her own button began to levitate.
ooc- DO NOT post yourself coming to class late. It makes the thread messy and Olivia willtake points. Please RP as though you've been sitting quietlyin your seat since Professor Tudor entered the room. Also, please keep chit chat to a minimum as well, for the same reason. Thanks!

Danika watched Tudor sort of confused. So she meant they were supposed to levitate their buttons. Danika wondered if she was able to practice her non-verbal in this class or not. She opted on saying it out loud for the time being. She swished and flicked her wand and said "Wingardium Leviosa". The button rose in the air and went high into the air. Then she lowered it back to the desk and sighed. How boring she thought.
Then she moved her wand casually across the desk and her button rose up in the air again, rising ever higher as she pointed her wand at it. She lowered the button back to the desk and looked up at Tudor, not exactly expecting praise, but maybe a 'Well Done' or something similar. Or maybe even a scolding for using non-verbal.

Kelly had hoped something a bit more complicated, but "oh well" she thought "everyone here aren't in the sevent year." So she copied Professor's movements pointed to her button and said "Wingardium Leviosa". As the button rose smoothly in the air and then landed on the desk again with no sound, Kelly smiled.

Olivia nodded at the girls, "Well done," she said, pleased that they knew the basics. That meant their next lesson would be considerably more entertaining. She noticed the looks of boredom on their faces and quickly added, "I'm sorry that today's lesson is so basic. Your former charms professor failed to leave any records of what you've covered in this class, so please know that not all of our lessons are going to be like this."
Olivia had noticed a girl using a non verbal to levitate her button, and turned to her, "Excuse me, what is your name?"

Nathan had done the spell before, during his first year, but he perfected it during his second. He simply said "Wingardium Leviosa" with a flick of his wand and the button was lifted gracefully into the air. Nathan noticed that Danika didn't pronounce any words the second time, and with that he lost his focus. The button fell loudly into his desk, just as a coin when it falls into the ground. "Oops" was all he could say. This was the first time in a few years that he didn't complete the spell.

Caitlin smiled at Proffesor Tudor. She watched Danika preform the spell she followed suit with a nonverbal spell as well. this was basic but hey whatever!

Danika looked up as Tudor addressed her. "Danika Peverell, Professor. Sixth Year Slytherin." she said, her head held high, in an arrogant superior sort of way.

Olivia nodded, "Well five points to slytherin for using a nonverbal spell," she turned to face the class at large, "Is it safe to assume that all of you know non-verbals, or is Miss Peverell the only one?"

Danika looked triumphant. Kelly was just annoyed she didn't get 5 points. "Initiative. Use it." she whispered hautily to Kelly. Danika loved showing people up. It was her thing.

"I don't care about points. I care about improvement and the real life, where you don't get points for showing off." she smiled at her. Kelly didn't want an argument or a fight, so she tried to sound neutral, even though Danika's aura was driving her to madness. So much hatred and mixed feelings. No wonder why she is, who she is.
