One of my other hobbies (yes, I do have hobbies besides HP) is making miniatures, usually in 1:12 scale - in other words, something that is 12 inches in real life would be 1 inch in miniature. This year, I've been making miniature wands. Some will eventually be included in the miniature Slytherin common room that I'm also working on. Others will be sold at the annual show and sale that the miniatures club I belong to holds every year in October.  This photo shows a selection of the wands I've made. Most of them are just over an inch long, though one is somewhat longer, so it isn't strictly to scale. The ruler at the bottom shows inches, and is part of the photo, not added later. I carve the wands from wooden toothpicks - all I use is an X-Acto knife and very fine sandpaper. The 'spoil' rate is roughly 30% - about 1/3 of all the wands I start get ruined - usually because I've accidentally snapped it, but occasionally because I make a mistake in carving that I can't correct. The majority of the wands are spiral, because those are the most fun to carve! |

WOW! You're so talented! What an amazing gift, those are so cool What else do you make? All sorts. Lots of miniatures, especially in polymer clay. I've been working on a Monster Book of Monsters that's about an inch high. I'll post a pic of that when it's finished. I also make full sized wands, from different woods. Below are some pics of the dungeon I'm making. The first one shows just the shell, after a couple of stages working on the walls.  The next two show the same thing, but after I'd finished 'distressing' the walls so they look more like a thousand year old dungeon. The hole cut in the wall will eventually lead to a secret cavern full of dark arts stuff. The big bookcase is something I didn't make from scratch, but I did rebuild the bottom portion, and restain the whole thing. To give you an idea of the size, the walls are about 10 inches tall. |

They are really good! You should definitely keep doing it. And there's nothing wrong with obsession, as long as no one gets hurt.

Well, occasionally an X-Acto blade slips... occupational hazard of carving!
I should have the Monster Book of Monsters finished tonight, If so, I'll post a pic of it. I wouldn't mind making a full-sized version of it some time.

Thanks. I finally took a pic of the first full-size wand I've finished. It's about 14 inches long, made from cherry wood. I carved this one using a Dremel.
