This is where the house elves prepare your food! come in and have fun but please respect the elves.

Chris looked around the kitchen in amazement. It was the first time he'd been in here, and actually his first time seeing House Elves. At home, he often raided the kitchen in the night, when he felt hungry. This kitchen looked as if it had much more variety in the way of tasty snacks.

Jinx savored the warm feel of the butter beer as it dripped down his throat. When he had finished the jug he wiped his mouth on the sleeve of his robe.
"Thanks Gabby," he said to the house elf. "I needed that."
Jinx had just arrived from another bad Christmas with his parents. I can't wait till I'm 17, he thought, biting into a left over slice of pecan pie the elf had brought him.

Still looking around, Chris spotted Jinx. "Hi," he said. "I've never been in here before. What was that you were drinking? It looked pretty good." He smiled shyly at the house elves hurrying around the kitchen.

Jinx turned at the sound of a familiar voice.
"Oh, hey Chris. That was butter beer, want to try it?" he asked, standing up, swallowing and brushing some crumbs off. "Its non- alcoholic." he assured. The "beer" part threw people off.

"Oh, you mean it's like ginger beer? That's not alcoholic either. Yes, I'll try some, it sounds good." He took a bottle and sipped it cautiously. Then he smiled, and took a good gulp. "This is really good! My brother will be so jealous when I tell him about it." He looked up at Jinx, remembering their conversation on the train. "So - how was your Christmas? Was it as bad as you thought it would be?"

"Hmm... worse. My great Aunt Meridith was there. I thought she had died. I must have been Margaret, they were twin. Nasty people. I did get a globe though, the nicest gift I've received this far. Yours was better I hope?" he said airily, he had decided to make the most of his life.

"Oh it was great. My parents took me to Diagon Alley, and let me go in all the shops I wanted. They were too nervous to go in them in August. But they've made friends with some other muggle parents who have wizard kids, so they're much more comfortable with the whole thing. What kind of globe did you get? I got one too, but it was a celestial globe."

Jinx smiled at Chris' enthusiasm. "It's a nice enough globe, shows all the wizarding communities and stuff like that. Diagon alley's pretty cool."
