General Overview
Hogwarts School is a free forum based community Harry Potter Role-Playing site. It is available to users of all ages, to provide a fun and safe environment to celebrate the series by J.K. Rowling. Hogwarts School attempts to simulate the world created by JKR to the best of our ability; therefore we have several rules to ensure that we are upholding the spirit of the Harry Potter books.
Students who repeatedly break the following rules will be subject to several different forms of disciplinary action, including but not limited to; Detention, Loss of House Points, Restriction of posting privileges, Suspension, Expulsion or Banishment from the site
Registration
A. Names may not contain any numbers or symbols. You will not be able to get sorted or receive a job if you don’t. You will be told that you need to change your name, so you have a reason why we aren’t sorting you. If you don’t know how to change your name go to any of the Professors. They will tell you how. Your username can be whatever you want. We have a "Display Name" part in our profile, which is where you need to change your name to a first name and surname (eg: Kildara Snape)
B. Names may not contain inappropriate language, nor may they insinuate something of an inappropriate nature.
C. The Hogwarts School Staff reserves the right to change the name of a student at any time if we feel it is in the best interest of the site. This rule, only really applies for me. Staff may do it, but you have to talk to me first. If I find out you messed with a student's name and you did not let me know. I may rip your administrative power from you.
D. Only ONE character per account. We have the Alias feature which enables you to flick between multiple accounts with out signing in and out! If you want more than one character, please make a separate account for each. For more info on the Alias feature, PM me (admin)
Your Character
A. Age: Your student can be any age upon entering Hogwarts School. This in mind, please post age appropriately to the age you have chosen!
B. All student’s races be will human by default.
C. Your character only knows what they have been personally told. There is no such thing as an omniscient character. Your character doesn't know everyone's secrets, what they get up to while your character isn't there, etc.
The School Year
A. Hogwarts School operates on a three term system, with each term lasting approximately 6 weeks.
B. School holidays, over RP Christmas/New Year, Easter, will be approximately 2 weeks long, with the one over the RP Summer, being longer.
School work
A. You may sign up for classes. You may attend as many classes as you want, there is no limit.
B. You do not have to attend classes to pass on to the next term. That is one way though. Another way is to be very active on the site. Post a lot. Follow the rules and listen to staff members. If you do that you will pass on to your next year.
C. If you choose to complete your homework, your teachers may choose to reward you with House Points, praise, or a good grade.
D. If you are unable to post attendance for any reason, it is your duty to inform your teacher as soon as possible so they can excuse you from the lesson.
E. All punishments and grades are up to the teacher's discretion.
F. All homework assignments are to be original work. Anyone caught plagiarizing the work of another student, professional author; webmaster, etc. will lose an automatic 50 points from their house and will be subject to further discipline.
Fan Fictions
A. General Fics: These must not contain any course language, sexual tension, nor innuendoes. All content must be suitable for user under the age of 16.
B. MA Fics: These are for the slightly more mature reader. May contain strong language, though not much, and not overly used, and some mild sexual tension. When I say mild, I mean mild. Awkward kissing scenes are okay, but nothing more.
Mature Content
A. As this is a general RP site, things need to be kept PG-Rated. That means very mild course language, no sex in the public eye, etc. Kissing is okay, but nothing more, as per ProBoards T&C.
B. If you break the rules for this, I will take action. Posts will be deleted, and you will obtain a sanction of some sort.
Cbox
A. This is a public site, anyone can read what you write on the cbox. Anyone.
B. Do not spam up my Cbox. If I see you doing it - You're banned from using it. Simple as that. Want to spam, go to the Chat board of the forum - spam all you like in there!
C. Conversations of an explicit nature are best kept to the PM system, or MSN or what ever IM application you use. I will accept them on here, but, again, if they get too bad, action will be taken, and you will be banned.
D. Do not advertise, etc, on the Cbox. Got a site and want to advertise, go to the advertise board. Easy!
Other Miscellaneous Rules
A. During the time before terms starts, please do not give out any passwords, and leave that for the Staff, as they will be in direct contact with those who are new, and will know which students are in which dorm.
B. If there is ever a question on the boards that you do not know the answer to, please do not attempt to answer it with a guess. Simply refer the person to someone who may know the answer.
C. Posting. Keep your post to a minimum of 30 words. If we find you doing less then 30 words you will receive a warning.
D. Hogwarts School reserves the right to edit any posts that it feels are against the spirit of the site.
E. The teachers of Hogwarts School give up several hours of their time each day to make this site possible, and it is of the utmost importance that you treat them with respect at all times. Treat them no differently than you would your teachers at school, because this is exactly what Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizadry is, a school.
F. In public areas such as the Great Hall, students are asked to refrain from using inflammatory language towards any house, student, or teacher. In dorm common rooms, the allowance of such language will be at the discretion of the dorm advisor.
G. As an addendum to rule F, students are not to be discouraged from having a house rivalry as long as the language used therein is not of an overly offensive nature. Frivolous or extraneous posts such as "SUCH AND SUCH HOUSE RULES!!!" or the negative there of, are not examples of such posts as will be allowed in a class rivalry topic.
H. Short and pointless posts in which a student only says something along the lines of “lol,” or posts an emoticon are frowned upon. They are ok in moderation, but if they get to be a problem, then action may be taken.
I. An effort may be made to keep posts on topic. Also, please let sleeping threads lie. If a thread hasn’t been responded to in weeks, there is no reason to bump it up to the front page.
J. All clubs must have the permission of a Staff member before they can hold meetings, make plans, elect officers, etc. Additional Club rules will be posted in the clubs forum.
K. If at any point in time a student is given a detention, they must follow the rules that are set forth for that detention. No other teacher, unless that teacher is in charge of the detention, can interfere in another detention.
