Zach nodded. "I just want to get back to school and forget all this. There's a special train running this evening - we'll be on the train all night, but at least we won't waste any more of the term. We can head over the Kings Cross right now. Got any luggage?"

Nathalie shook her head. "Just my purse. My parents had my trunk sent to school on the regular trip. It'll be interesting being on the Hogwarts Express at night. We'll see the sunrise."
She shifted the strap of her purse onto her shoulder, and turned in the direction Zach was indicating.
"Zach - thanks for all your support. I think I might have given in to my dad, and refused to testify, if you hadn't sent me all those owls in the summer."

Zach smiled. "Glad I could help. It was hard enough for me, with my family supporting me." He picked up his backpack by the straps, and began to walk with Nathalie. "You think your dad will stay mad at you for long?"

Nathalie shrugged as they walked towards the elevators. "He's pretty furious. But I think by the end of term, he'll have calmed down a bit." She managed a weak smile. "He's never very friendly at the best of times, so it won't make a whole lot of difference."

Zach grinned. At least she was trying to joke about it. As they continued to walk, he glanced at her, and it suddenly seemed natural to put his arm round her shoulders. He really hoped she wouldn't object.
"Hey, did you hear, my brother's head boy this year. I reckon the new head must be insane - whoever that is. Either that or they never read Aidan's permanent record!"

Nathalie glanced quickly at Zach when he put his arm around her. She was startled, to say the least. But it felt kind of nice, so she smiled, and matched her pace to his, finally getting up the nerve to put her arm round his waist. Definitely a good feeling!
As he went on, she had to laugh. She'd heard plenty about Aidan's exploits - and Zach's too! Though the revelation during today's hearing had topped everything she'd heard so far. Then he mentioned the new head of Hogwarts, and she looked up at him, surprised.
"But - didn't you know? It's Sara Templeton - the juror who asked you... that question today."

Zach stared at Nathalie in horror. "She's - headmistress?" Merlin's jockstrap! God knew what Ms Templeton must think now. Most likely she'd rip Aidan's badge off him the minute she arrived at the school.
He sighed, and said, "Nat, you must think I'm a total sleeze after what you heard in the courtroom today."

Nathalie giggled. "Not for me to judge," she assured him with a grin. "But you'd better warn Aidan that he'll be asked to give his own account of it. You know," she went on, "most of the boys at school will be in awe of you and Aidan now. And I can think of a few girls who'll be pretty impressed, too!"

Zach chuckled. "Great. Just what I need - a fan club!"
As they stepped into the elevator, he said, "We didn't make a habit of it - being with the same girl at the same time, I mean." Crap, now he was blushing. "I mean, it was just that once, and I was dating someone else the rest of the year. But that ended back in the spring, and I - that is, I was hoping we could - umm, would you, well, like to go out with me?"

Nathalie smiled as Zach tried to explain what had happened. She really didn't think any less of him, just because he was adventurous! As he stumbled over his words, she bit her lip, hoping she was jumping to the right conclusion. She felt that they'd formed a connection, and had been hoping that it wouldn't be at an end now that the stress of the trial was over.
And then he finally managed to say it, and Nathalie couldn't stop the grin that spread over her face. She nodded. "Yeah. I'd really like that." She looked up at him, lifting her face as he leaned closer. Her heart started to beat faster. But their lips had barely touched when the elevator jerked to a halt and the doors flew open, revealing a knot of people waiting to board the elevator.
Grinning at each other, trying to stifle their laughter, Nathalie and Zach stepped out of the elevator, and headed through the lobby. It was okay. They'd have lots of time to snog on the train!
