Frankie sat on the cold stone bench gazing at the fountain in the center of the courtyard. It was looking a little overgrown with ivy and she wondered why the caretaker hadn't trimmed it back. As she pondered this she chewed absently on the end of her quill, which was beginning to look more like a piece of fresh liqourice it was so tattered. A group of 5th years nearby broke into a round of laughter and she scowled. Why was everyone always so bloody cheerful around here. What was to be so cheerful about anyway? She thought of Justin and a pout joined the frown. What did he see in that girl anyway, what with her dark hair and dark skin and dark bloody eyes. Damn her! Like she cared. Her fist tightened around the quill and she jumped as it snapped in half. She stared at it for a surprised moment and then hurled it away in disgust. Damn everything.

Since it was such a nice day, Hailey decided to head outside with her guitar for a change; considering it had been raining practically every day for the past week, it was a welcome change to see the sun. Things had suddenly been so busy for her that she never ended up having the time to play her guitar which really was a bad thing since she had some record companies express some interest in her.
She took a seat on the ground and rested her guitar in her lap, then she took her pick from her pocket and started to play a song that she was still working on.

Riley was walking through the courtyard with his books in hand figuring that he really needed to get started on some homework. And really, was there a better place to work than in the Courtyard? Not in his mind. But he found that when he was making his way through there was a girl playing music. So much for being productive, he thought with a sigh.

Hailey stopped playing when out of the corner of her eye, she noticed someone there, why was it that where ever she tried to practice that people showed up randomly? It drove her crazy because she wanted nothing more than to be by herself at times but apparently that was asking too much of everyone.
She put her guitar down on the ground for the moment and put her pick in her pocket, then got up and dusted herself off before walking over to the guy and clearing her throat. "Hey." she said with a slight nod as she put her hands behind her back for the moment.

Had she got the hint that he didn't want her to do that when he was trying to work? Or... never mind. Apparently she wanted to talk to him. Or something. "Er, hi?" he replied as she was suddenly standing in front of him. I'm Riley. And you are?" He wasn't so big on this whole meeting new people thing.

Hailey took her wand from her pocket and without even uttering a single word, she moved her wand and caught the neck of her guitar so that it wouldn't drop, well the practice with non-verbals certainly helped because she didn't feel like just walking away and going over to grab her guitar.
"I'm Hailey, so what house and year are you?" she asked curiously as she pocketed her wand for the moment, it was always accessible because she never knew if she was going to need it.

Wandering out into the courtyard, a light jacket on her slight form against the autumn chill, even though at least the sun was out, Emmalynne looked around. She didn't feel like wandering around by herself, but that meant she had to find someone to talk to. At least she didn't have trouble with that, usually. And, seeing a couple people talking a little way away, a grin appeared on her face as she headed their way, dark hair bouncing a little behind her shoulders.
"Hi," she said gaily as she came up to the boy and girl. "I'm not interrupting anything, am I?" Her hazel eyes went between the two for a second before lighting on what the girl was holding. "You play guitar? That's cool. I wish I could." Taking a breath, she finally stopped talking for a moment, her grin still on her face as she looked at the others again, waiting.

As she heard someone else talking, Hailey turned slightly to look at the girl who was speaking; before she decided to speak to the other girl, she pulled the hood up over her brown hair. "Oh no, it was nothing important anyways." Grabbing the guitar strap that was hanging down, she swung it up over her shoulder and adjusted it so her guitar was now securely fastened to her back.
"Yeah I do, I'm a musician actually; if you're interested in learning, I could always teach you." She rubbed the back of her neck slightly before realizing she hadn't introduced herself yet. "I don't believe we've met before, I'm Hailey St. James"

Emmalynne had been waiting to see if the boy was going to acknolwedge her, not really used to feeling like she was being ignored. Usually her energy forced people to pay attention to her, and therefore the fact this boy wasn't talking piqued her interest. But finally her hazel eyes went back to the girl with the guitar, as she tilted her head slightly to one side in curiosity, her dark curls falling over her shoulder. "Um, is he okay?," she found herself asking, before she could stop herself.
But then she realized the girl had actually offered to teach her to play if she wanted, and her couriosity about the Huffie boy faded as her excitement came back. "That would be awesome. Except I wouldn't want to accidentally hurt your guitar or anything, do anything wrong," she said, trying to force herself to calm down. She knew not everyone could deal with her for very long, and she didn't want to scare anyone away, and it seemed like the girl was uncomfortable or something. "Oh, I'm Emmalynne St. Pierre. I don't know if we've met before. I'm a fourth year Hufflepuff," she helpfully provided, in response to Hailey's introduction. "It's nice to meet you, Hailey." Please don't run away from me, she involuntarily added silently. She liked it much better when she felt like she was making new friends, not scaring people away with her bounciness.

Hailey looked at Riley quizically and then turned her attention back to the other girl, he looked as though he was stunned although she didn't really know what was up with him. "I think so although I only met him a couple minutes ago." she replied with a slight shrug then was careful that she didn't end up hitting herself in the back of the head with her guitar.
"Ah I'm not worried if you somehow manage to damage my guitar, I know how to fix it and with all the people I've taught to play, my guitar has never become broken so we can just figure out a lesson time and I'll be more than happy to teach you." she replied with a slight chuckle, she thought that this girl was a little hyper but that was something that she was used to by now. "Well it's nice to meet you Emmalynne; 4th year huh? I'm a 6th year Hufflepuff." she added then smiled slightly.

Frankie had run through the castle and out into the night air without stopping. As the coolness hit her she suddenly stopped and gasped. She stood there in the middle of the deserted courtyard breathing fast. The silence of the place suddenly reached her and she closed her eyes letting the breeze move over her face. After several seconds she walked unsteadily to the stone benches surrounding the fountain and dropped onto it. And wept.

Justin ran outside into the courtyard and came to a halt. His heart was racing, so he took a couple of deep breaths. He looked around and saw Frankie sit on one of the benches. And she was crying?! "You really messed up this time he cursed himself. He hadn't wanted to hurt Frankie. That was the last thing on his mind. He took a few cautious steps closer to her. "Frankie" he whispered before stepping towards her again. He knelt down next to the bench. "I didn't mean to make you cry, hon" he stared at the ground. "I just wanted to be honest with you. But I'll understand." he took a deep breath, looking up at her warily. "I've always been you're friend and if that's what you want, that's what I'll always be." he swallowed hard. That's what he had always been. But he didn't want to lose Frankie. He cared too much for her, to let that happen.

Frankie had been alone for a couple of minutes before Justin arrived gasping in the courtyard. She closed her eyes tight. Why did he have to follow me? I need time! she thought in frustration. She was so confused. She couldn't look at him when he knelt down beside her. She looked away to the side, brushing her tears furiously from her cheeks. She didn't want him to look at her, to see her this way. She just sniffed quietly, not saying anything. She couldn't form a complete sentence that made any sense anyway. She couldn't block out what he was saying, however. She flinched when he said her name and shut her eyes tight. When he talked about being her friend she trembled slightly and she shook herself to make it stop. But her bottom lip continued to tremble.
As he started to talk about still being friend: "...if that's what you want.", she shook her head and finally looked at him. "I don't know. I'm just...so confused. I don't know what I want." she said, her voice coming out as a broken whisper.

Justin waited in silence for Frankie to speak. Both of their hearts were beating rapidly. The sound echoing from the courtyard walls. Like someone was banging on a 100 war drums at the same time. The time went past so slowly, it was excruciating. He waited and waited, till she finally spoke. He wasn't surprised when she said she didn't know what she wanted, cause he could never figure out what she had or hadn't wanted. He chuckled under his breath "And it's alright, hon". He put his hand under her chin, raising her eyes and locking them into his. "If it's time that you want, I'll wait. I've waited for so long, haven't I" he smiled. And it was true. He had waited so long to tell her how he felt, what difference would a bit more time make, even if it was killing him on the inside. He planted a soft kiss on her cheek and rose to his feet. He could feel tears running down his own cheeks, but he couldn't let Frankie see them. He turned his back towards her, so he was facing the fountain and tried to brush away the tears. He took a deep breath before continuing "Would you like me to stay or ..?"
