Third Floor Corridor

[Frankie Redfield]

Frankie felt embarrassed all of a sudden. But she did feel slightly annoyed by him telling her off for wanting to be alone. He hadn't been around as much lately.
"You were spending so much time with...your little Italian friend. I kind of felt like you were..." she paused not sure how to put it "...bored of me or something. She's so pretty and funny and confident. I figured you'd rather be with her." she shrugged, feeling silly.

She began chewing her lip as Justin talked about the stone again and she frowned slightly.
"But it can't be! That's...I mean there are millions of stones out in that forest. And no one ever knew what Harry did with the stone. He wouldn't have just thrown it away in the forest...would he? I mean anyone could have found it. Wouldn't he have locked it away somewhere?" she asked. But it kind of made sense. There were millions of stones out in the forest. The chances of someone actually picking up the right one...

...suddenly she felt like she wanted the earth to open up and swallow her.
"Oh my god, I'm cursed aren't I?"

Justin stared at Frankie in confusion. He did not hear a word she said about the stone. The only thing he could think of was her. How she wanted him around, but never said anything. How she thought that Sophia was better then her. How she thought that he would've been bored of her. He emerged from his thoughts only when Frankie gasped that she was cursed. He placed his finger on her lips and looked her straight in the eye. He slipped the stone in his pocket and then took her hand in his, with their fingers intertwining. "Shh" he whispered "you are not cursed." He smiled at her "I want to forget about the stone for a split second, to let you know how I feel. I haven't been keeping away on purpose. I just didn't think you wanted me around. I tried making you jealous with all this Sophia thing, but you reacted differently then I had thought." He leant a bit closer to her. "The truth is" he whispered quietly, not taking his eyes off her "I'm in love with you, Frankie."

When Justin took her hand a shiver went through her. It surprised her and for a moment she pondered it's meaning. But his words drew her attention back to him. She stared back at him, her lips slightly parted and tingling from his touch. Se couldn't believe what he was saying. She shook her head when he said she wasn't cursed, but froze as he continued.
The stone was indeed forgotten.
She just stared at him in confusion, a flourish of emotions swarming her. Jealous? He was trying to make her jealous? That was silly....but she had been jealous. She had thought she just didn't like Sophia, but it was how Justin was around the girl that had made her crazy, not Sophia herself.
"but..."
She couldn't say anything else. He loved her? No, was in love with her?

Her eyes dropped from his and she frowned slightly, her eyes welling up. Her head shook gently.
"You can't...no. You're not. We're friends. You're my friend. You don't...I don't..."
She shook her head again and leant back from him. Suddenly she was on her feet stepping away from him. She couldn't process what she was feeling. She opened her mouth to speak again but no words could form. She took more steps backwards and then she was running away down the corridor and out of sight.

Justin watched in horror as Frankie backed away from him. This was not what he wanted. Not what he had hoped for. He watched her run off and didn't know what to do. He stood there for a moment, till his heart made the decision for him. He wasn't gonna let her leave like this. Before he knew it, he was running down after her.
